Etinosa Defends AY, Blasts ‘Bad-News Culture’ After Cardiff Show Fallout

Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has come to the defence of comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, following criticism over the disruption of his scheduled comedy show in Cardiff, Wales.

In a post on her Instagram page, Etinosa criticised entertainment blogs for giving little attention to the comedian’s earlier UK tour performances while extensively covering the controversy surrounding the Cardiff event.

She maintained that AY had been performing at other tour stops and entertaining fans before circumstances prevented him from taking the stage in Cardiff on Sunday.

The actress argued that the incident had prompted widespread reactions without sufficient consideration of what might have caused the disruption.

Etinosa also faulted what she described as the tendency to prioritise negative stories over positive developments, accusing some blogs of turning the controversy into an opportunity to attract attention.

Reflecting on the situation, she said the public response was particularly disappointing because, in her view, few outlets had celebrated the comedian’s earlier performances.

She also expressed concern about the rush to judge the entertainer before the circumstances surrounding the incident were fully understood.

Etinosa referenced a similar situation involving comedian Eric Gugua, ending her post with a prayer for God to grant AY the grace to navigate the controversy.

AY apologises, explains Cardiff show disruption

The actress’s comments followed a public apology issued by AY on Monday, October 26, after his scheduled performance in Cardiff failed to go ahead as expected.

In his statement, the comedian said he and the other comedians billed for the show had travelled to Cardiff and eventually gained access to the venue.

However, according to AY, unresolved payment commitments delayed their appearance until most of the audience had left.

He apologised to ticket holders, acknowledging that they deserved better event organisation and timely communication.

AY also called on the event organisers and the UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for affected ticket holders, including information about refunds.

The comedian did not publicly identify the parties responsible for the payment dispute in his statement.

The incident has drawn criticism from attendees who expected to see the advertised performances, while AY’s explanation has added to the debate over what happened behind the scenes.

Despite the Cardiff setback, AY said his remaining UK tour dates in Birmingham on October 30, London on October 31 and Manchester on November 1 remained scheduled.
