Enhancing Combat Proficiency: 4 Brigade Emerges Overall Champion in 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition 2026

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, clinched the title of overall champion in the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition 2026.
The event, which took place from April 20 to 23, was hosted by 4 Brigade at the Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ekehuan.
This is according to Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Benin City in a Statement on Friday, April, 24, 2026.
In his welcome address, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, Commander of the 4 Brigade, outlined the objectives of the competition, stating it is designed to improve combat proficiency, leadership skills, organizational ability, and teamwork.
He emphasized the importance of fostering esprit de corps among soldiers of junior ranks and highlighted that the event also challenges their initiative and prepares them for greater responsibilities.
“This competition is more than just a contest of skills; it is a platform that cultivates unity, resilience, and a spirit of continuous improvement among our soldiers,” General Balogun remarked. He appreciated Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, for the trust placed in 4 Brigade to host the event and for the ongoing commitment to enhancing the training and welfare of personnel.
In his closing remarks, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, Special Guest of Honour and Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the competition.
“The objectives have been largely achieved, with significant improvements in physical and mental capacities among participants,” he said. He noted that the leadership traits and organizational abilities strengthened during the competition would prepare the soldiers for the operational challenges the nation currently faces.
General Adegbite encouraged participants to bring the knowledge and experience gained back to their respective formations, translating these into practical achievements that would benefit both their units and the Nigerian Army as a whole.
He expressed gratitude to Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, Chief of Army Staff, for his unwavering commitment to the development of junior non-commissioned officers, whom he praised as the backbone of the Army.
The Major General also lauded the planning team for ensuring the competition was fair, challenging, and reflective of real-world operational standards, reinforcing the importance of these skills in today’s security landscape.
The resounding success of the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition not only showcases the dedication of the Nigerian Army to training and development but also strengthens the bonds among its soldiers, paving the way for enhanced operational efficacy in the future.
The 2026 edition of the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition featured events such as drill competition, combat swimming, map reading, weapon handling and firing, combat cross-country race, and obstacle crossing.
Participating formations included 4 Brigade, 12 Brigade, 22 Armoured Brigade, 32 Artillery Brigade, 42 Engineers Brigade, and 2 Division Garrison. At the end of the competition, 4 Brigade, emerged overall champion, while 12 Brigade, and 2 Division Garrison, came second and third respectively.
The ceremony was graced by heads of security agencies in Edo State, as well as friends of the Brigade. Highlights of the closing ceremony included obstacle crossing competition among formations, presentation of awards, souvenirs, and group photographs.
