NNPC Debunks ‘Scrap Sale’ Rumours, Warns Public Against Fraudsters

Oil giant says no refinery equipment or materials are up for sale, urges Nigerians to stay vigilant…..

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has firmly dismissed circulating claims that it is selling scrap materials or refinery equipment, describing the reports as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday, the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said no such sales process has been initiated or approved by the national oil firm.

He clarified that NNPC Ltd. has not released any request for bids, tenders, or expressions of interest for the disposal of scrap materials, refinery components, or any items from its facilities.

The company also raised alarm over reports that some individuals are posing as its representatives, attempting to lure unsuspecting members of the public with offers to facilitate the purchase of so-called scrap metals or equipment.

According to Odeh, these actors are not affiliated with NNPC Ltd. and are deliberately misleading people for fraudulent purposes.

He urged individuals, businesses, and industry stakeholders to ignore such approaches and exercise caution when dealing with anyone making such claims.

NNPC Ltd. reiterated that it is neither conducting nor planning any sale of refinery materials or equipment at this time. The company emphasized that any legitimate disposal of assets would follow clearly defined, transparent procedures and be publicly announced through official channels.

The organisation encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious offers or individuals claiming to act on its behalf to report them to law enforcement authorities.

Reaffirming its stance, NNPC Ltd. said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the proper management of Nigeria’s energy resources while warning that scams exploiting its name will not be tolerated.
