Airpeace Ambassadors recently paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Captain and Coach of the national football team of Nigeria, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, in Enugu.
According to Dr. Olusegun Odegbami, the visit was a touching display of solidarity, as Chukwu’s colleagues shed tears but brought smiles to the family with their presence.
The Airpeace Ambassadors who paid the condolence visit included notable figures such as Dr. Felix Owolabi, MON; Dr. Bruce Ijirigho; Dr. Godwin Obasogie; Mr. Frank Onwuachi, MON; Mr. Sylvanus Okpala, MON, OON; Mr. Charlton Ehizuelen; Mr. Uche Okechukwu; and Dr. Olusegun Odegbami.
They were joined by a high-powered delegation from the Enugu State government, led by the Honourable Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekwerenmadu, who came to pay their last respects to the legendary Coach and former Nigerian international.
The late Chairman Christian Chukwu had etched his name in history by captaining the Eagles to victory in the 1980 African Cup of Nations and later leading the team to triumph as Coach in 1994 under the management of Clemence Westerhoff.
The visit also included a courtesy call on ailing AirPeace Ambassador, ‘Tallest’ Emmanuel Okala, MON, at his residence in Enugu. This gesture was initiated by Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman of AirPeace Airline, who also kick-started financial support towards a befitting national burial for the football legend with a token donation.
As the nation prepares to bid farewell to this iconic figure, the burial date has been fixed for August 16, 2025. Dr. Odegbami quoted Dr. Onyema as saying, “We must give Chairman Christian Chukwu the sendoff he deserves.”
