Deborah Abiodun Hails Super Falcons’ Win Over Ghana as Key WAFCON Test

Super Falcons midfielder, Deborah Abiodun, has shared her thoughts on Nigeria’s 3-1 victory over long-standing rivals, the Black Queens of Ghana, in a pre-2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) friendly held on Sunday night.
The match saw the Super Falcons take control early, with goals from Chiwendu Ihezuo and Asisat Oshoala in the first half. Team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, added a third shortly after the break, before Ghana’s Alice Kusi scored a late consolation goal two minutes from full-time.
The win extends Nigeria’s unbeaten run to three matches and served as a vital test ahead of the upcoming WAFCON tournament.
Reflecting on the performance, Abiodun emphasized the importance of facing a strong opponent like Ghana. “It was a good training match, especially against a team like Ghana, who bring the physicality, and I think it’s very good for the team,” she told NFF TV.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to their opening Group B match at the WAFCON 2024 finals, where they will face Tunisia on Sunday.
