Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised concerns over an alleged plan to arrest members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Davido made the allegation in a post on X on Thursday, urging members of the party to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety as the state approaches the poll.
The singer, who is a nephew of incumbent Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, said he had received information about an alleged move to arrest Accord supporters in the hours leading up to the election.
“Accord members stay safe! Just got intel, the next few hours they want to start arresting our people for nothing!” Davido wrote.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s chances at the election, declaring that the campaign was “coasting to victory” while calling on supporters to “mount your guard.”
Davido did not provide details of the alleged arrest plan or identify those he believed were behind it.
His comments come amid heightened political tension in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with rival political camps trading allegations over intimidation and possible electoral violence.
Governor Adeleke has also previously alleged that federal institutions were being used to intimidate members of his camp, while other political actors have raised concerns over security and violence ahead of the poll.
The election will see Adeleke, now running under the Accord platform, seek another term against candidates including the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer, Bola Oyebamiji.
The political atmosphere has been further strained by a separate controversy involving Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who was invited by the police over alleged inciting comments concerning Accord members.
With voting scheduled for Saturday, attention remains focused on the conduct of political actors, the security agencies and voters as authorities work to prevent violence and protect the integrity of the election.
