Chidinma Reveals Why She Tried to Leave Nigeria Permanently Before Gospel Music Switch

Nigerian singer Chidinma Ekile has revealed that she once attempted to settle permanently abroad and had no plans to return to Nigeria before her transition from secular music to gospel music.

The singer shared the experience at a recent event organised by Eezee Conceptz, explaining that she travelled abroad and began processing documents that would allow her to remain there permanently.

However, her plans did not work out as expected, eventually leading to her return to Nigeria.

“I travelled. I ran away from Nigeria. I was processing my papers not to come back to Nigeria, but for some reason, it didn’t work,” she said.

How Eezee Conceptz influenced her return

Chidinma said the chief executive officer of Eezee Conceptz was the only person who consistently contacted her from Nigeria while she was abroad.

She credited his calls and encouragement with helping her find the motivation to return home.

Upon her return, she approached him about securing a gospel music contract, explaining that her priority was to deepen her relationship with God.

“When I came back, I asked him to give me a gospel music contract because I want to spend time with God,” she said.

According to the singer, the label offered her a contract that even surprised her lawyer, who reportedly described the terms as resembling a charitable arrangement.

Chidinma did not disclose the financial details of the agreement.

Singer explains reason for gospel transition

The singer also clarified that her move into gospel music was not initially driven by a desire to establish herself in the genre.

Instead, she said her decision stemmed from a personal desire to build a closer relationship with God.

Her account offers insight into the personal circumstances surrounding her career shift from secular music to gospel music under Eezee Conceptz.

Chidinma first gained widespread recognition in Nigeria’s mainstream music scene before embracing gospel music, marking a significant change in the direction of her career.
