Carter Efe and Big Brother Naija season seven winner Phyna emerged as the major winners at the Independence Day edition of Balmoral Promotions’ “Chaos in the Ring” celebrity boxing event in Lagos.
Efe retained his title after the referee stopped his four-round contest against rapper Speed Darlington, while Phyna secured a knockout victory over Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing in the final round of their bout.
The celebrity contests were held on Thursday at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
Efe controlled much of his encounter with Speed Darlington before the referee called off the contest after the rapper stopped responding to his opponent’s punches.
The stoppage extended Efe’s unbeaten run in the celebrity boxing series. He had previously defeated singer Habeeb “Portable” Badmus by unanimous decision in May to claim the title.
The three-round contest against Portable saw all three judges score the fight 30-27 in Efe’s favour, earning him a ₦50 million prize.
