Broda Shaggi Reveals Four-Month Struggle After Stray Bullet Injury

Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted the physical and emotional challenges he faced after a gunshot injury forced him to step away from work for months.
The skit maker shared his experience in a YouTube video published on Wednesday night, describing the incident, his medical treatment and the uncertainty he faced over his future in entertainment.
Broda Shaggi was reportedly hit by a stray bullet in March 2026 while filming a comedy skit beneath a bridge in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
At the time, details surrounding the shooting remained unclear. A police source told reporters that the entertainer had sustained a gunshot wound, while the Ogun State Police Command said it could not confirm whether the incident occurred within its jurisdiction.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continued.
‘All I wanted was to hear that I would be fine’
Recounting the incident, Broda Shaggi said he had been carrying out a routine brand activation assignment when the bullet struck him.
He said he lost consciousness before reaching the hospital but remembered praying as he was taken for medical attention.
“I was sweating. I was holding my leg, you know, I was seeing blood, and all I wanted to hear was a doctor or a nurse telling me Samuel, you’ll be fine,” he said.
The comedian explained that the injury immediately raised concerns about his ability to continue working, particularly because his performances often involve dancing, singing and drumming.
He wondered how he would sustain his career if the injury prevented him from moving freely.
Months away from work fuelled fears of being forgotten
Broda Shaggi said he had maintained an intense work schedule since 2018, moving between writing scripts, filming skits, recording music and travelling for engagements with little time to rest.
The sudden interruption left him worried that audiences might move on to other entertainers during his absence.
While recovering in hospital, he tried to remain productive by writing and launching a YouTube series. However, watching videos of colleagues performing sometimes left him emotional.
“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh, and sometimes I would start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they’re doing again,” he said.
His account highlights the uncertainty he experienced as he faced the possibility that his injury could affect both his mobility and the work that had defined his career.
Treatment in Dubai improves his mobility
The entertainer said he underwent surgery in Nigeria before requiring additional medical care and physiotherapy.
About four months after the incident, he travelled to Dubai for further treatment, which he said significantly improved his condition.
According to him, he was able to stand with support on the second day after the procedure and walk with crutches by the third day.
Broda Shaggi said he could now stand independently, although he still relied on crutches for support while walking.
He also expressed gratitude that the bullet struck his hip rather than his head or another vital organ.
Reflecting on the incident, he described surviving the shooting as a second chance at life.
Broda Shaggi promises new projects
Despite the months of recovery, the comedian assured his fans that he was preparing to return to their screens with new content.
He acknowledged that he had not fully regained his mobility but said his progress had been significant compared with the period when he could barely move his injured leg.
“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s a second chance,” he said, adding that he had exciting projects planned for his return.
His latest account offers a glimpse into the personal toll of the injury, from the physical rehabilitation to the fear of losing the ability to perform and maintain his connection with audiences.
