Tinubu, Uba Sani Partnership Takes Centre Stage at APC Campaign Flag-Off in Kaduna

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s arrival in Kaduna for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off has put his partnership with Governor Uba Sani in focus, with infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic development and security expected to shape the party’s re-election message ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rally offers the APC an opportunity to showcase its achievements, highlight ongoing projects and rally support across Northern Nigeria. Beyond the campaign spectacle, however, the administration’s success will be measured by the impact of its policies on residents.

At the centre of the party’s narrative is the longstanding relationship between Tinubu and Sani, dating back to their involvement in the pro-democracy struggle. Their political alliance is being presented as an advantage in attracting federal support and advancing Kaduna’s development agenda.

Infrastructure and transportation

Major road, rail and energy projects are expected to feature prominently in the campaign.

The 375-kilometre Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway is vital to regional trade, passenger movement and agricultural transportation, while the 614-kilometre Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline is designed to supply gas to industries and power facilities.

Other initiatives include the proposed Kaduna Light Rail Transit project, the reconstruction of the Mando–Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road and improvements to the Zaria–Soba–Pambegua and Zaria–Hunkuyi corridors.

The proposed Kaduna–Kano–Katsina–Maradi railway is also expected to strengthen regional connectivity and trade.

However, the projects’ significance will depend on timely completion, effective maintenance and tangible benefits for commuters, businesses and farming communities.

Education and healthcare

The administration’s development narrative also includes investments in higher education, vocational training and healthcare.

Institutions cited include the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia; the Federal University of Education, Zaria; and the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.

The Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan are also associated with efforts to expand medical training and access to specialist healthcare.

Their long-term impact will depend on adequate funding, qualified personnel, functional facilities and the quality of services delivered to students and patients.

Agriculture, industry and housing

The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone project in Daki-Takwas, Chikun Local Government Area, aims to link farmers with processing facilities and markets, reduce post-harvest losses and create jobs. The initiative has support from development partners, including the African Development Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the Islamic Development Bank.

The Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Sobawa, Rigachikun, is intended to improve access to affordable housing, while the Tudun Biri reconstruction project includes 133 housing units, a primary healthcare centre, a primary school and a skills acquisition centre.

The effectiveness of these initiatives will depend on implementation, accessibility and their ability to improve livelihoods.

Security and reconciliation

Security remains a critical issue in Kaduna, particularly in communities affected by communal violence and insecurity.

Sani’s administration has promoted the Kaduna Peace Model, which emphasises dialogue, inclusion and reconciliation.

The reopening of previously closed schools has been cited as a sign of progress in some areas, although sustained security improvements and the protection of farming communities remain essential.

Tinubu’s appointment of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Minister of Defence, following his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, has also been welcomed by supporters as significant for Southern Kaduna’s representation. Ultimately, the impact of security policies will be judged by their ability to protect lives and restore normalcy.

The political stakes

For the APC, the Kaduna rally provides a platform to link federal policies with the state government’s development agenda and present the Tinubu–Sani partnership as a model of political cooperation.

Yet, the party’s electoral prospects will depend on more than project announcements. Voters will assess whether roads are safer, schools function effectively, healthcare is accessible, jobs are available and communities can live and farm without fear.

As the APC begins its presidential campaign in Kaduna, its challenge will be to translate its development narrative into public confidence and electoral support ahead of the 2027 elections.
