Blaqbonez Says Life Abroad Exposed Nigeria’s Development Gap, Rules Out Retirement at Home

Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has expressed dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s level of development, saying his travels abroad have made him more aware of the gap between the country and other nations.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Zeze Millz Show, the rapper described Nigeria as a difficult place to live while acknowledging that its vibrant atmosphere and strong work ethic continue to motivate him.
Blaqbonez said he wished the country offered better living conditions and opportunities for its citizens.
“Nigeria is hectic, but it is still home. When you go to other countries, you will realise how far we are from where we should be,” he said.
He added that despite the challenges, Nigeria’s energy and determination to succeed remained distinctive features of the country.
“But the vibe and energy are still there. There is a hustle spirit that comes with being Nigerian. I really wish the country was better,” he said.

The rapper also disclosed that he did not envisage spending the remainder of his life in Nigeria, particularly after retiring from his career.
He argued that many successful people might prefer to settle elsewhere after their working years, although he acknowledged that some could choose to remain in the country.
“I don’t want to spend the rest of my life living in Nigeria. I don’t think that there is any successful person who wants to live in Nigeria after retirement. Maybe there are some people,” he said.
Explaining his personal vision for retirement, Blaqbonez said he hoped to own a large ranch where he could raise animals, a lifestyle he did not associate with Nigeria.
“But the way I picture my retirement is living in a big ranch and raising some animals. That is not a thing that is in Nigeria,” he added.
His remarks highlight the contrast between his appreciation for Nigeria’s entrepreneurial spirit and his concerns about the country’s development and long-term living conditions.
Although he remains appreciative of the motivation he draws from Nigerian society, the rapper’s comments suggest that his ideal retirement environment lies elsewhere.
