Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has emphasized that maintaining security is a shared responsibility, calling it “a continuous journey” that demands active citizen involvement and sustained government support.
The governor made the remarks on Monday during the commissioning of the newly completed headquarters of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) at Alagbaka, Akure. The modern facility includes a command and control centre and a training auditorium, designed to enhance operational efficiency, intelligence coordination, and tactical readiness across the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the leadership of Amotekun Corps Commander Adetunji Adeleye, commending the dedication and discipline that ensured the timely completion of the headquarters. He also lauded the collaboration between state security agencies, noting that such synergy has helped Ondo maintain its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states.
Speaking on the significance of the new training auditorium, the governor said that effective security requires not just physical strength, but knowledge, discipline, and well-structured training. He noted that the quick release of funds for the project reflects his administration’s commitment to the professional development and welfare of Amotekun personnel.
The governor also paid tribute to the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary leader whose foresight helped establish the Amotekun Corps in partnership with other South-West states.
Commander Adeleye reaffirmed the Corps’ determination to strengthen security statewide, highlighting that Amotekun’s growth since 2020 demonstrates the effectiveness of locally driven security initiatives supported by political will.
He credited the success of the Corps to a foundation of operational strength, rapid response, and community-based intelligence, and commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for expanding support through logistics, welfare programs, enhanced training, and institutional backing.
Adeleye said these measures have boosted operations in all 18 local government areas, improved personnel morale, and reinforced the state’s security architecture.
