Abuja-Kaduna Train Derails Near Jere Station, Passengers Stranded but Safe

On Tuesday, a passenger train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed near Jere Station, leaving hundreds of travelers stranded, though fortunately no casualties were reported.

A video circulating on social media captures the chaotic scene, with witnesses noting, “the train is full and they are coming out.”

This derailment follows an earlier incident confirmed by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on August 20, when one of the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) coaches experienced a hot axle several kilometers from Rigasa Station in Kaduna.

The cause of that earlier problem was identified as hot wheel friction due to excessive heat on the journal housing, leading to abnormal temperatures.

In response, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, stated that the situation was quickly managed, and the affected train was safely marshalled to Kaduna.
