IGP Egbetokun Rejects Governor Adeleke’s Claims of Involvement in Osun Violence

In a bold and unequivocal response, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has slammed the accusations made by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had linked him to the recent unrest in the state.

Governor Adeleke had alleged that Egbetokun was working with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to enforce a phantom court order reinstating dismissed local government officials.

Addressing the claims head-on on Thursday, Egbetokun dismissed them as “completely illogical” and unworthy of further consideration. “I will not dignify such baseless allegations with a response. We stand firm in defending the truth, and we will not let distortions go unchallenged,” he asserted.

The IGP went on to explain that the police’s actions in Osun were strictly in response to security concerns arising from violent outbreaks. He clarified that reinforcements were deployed at the request of the state’s Commissioner of Police, with the primary goal of restoring order.

“We all witnessed the recent violence in Osun,” Egbetokun said. “Our intervention was in direct response to the call for reinforcements by the Commissioner of Police, and we now have a strong presence on the ground to ensure peace and stability.”

Egbetokun urged the people of Osun to remain calm, continue with their daily lives, and trust that law enforcement agencies are dedicated to upholding peace and the rule of law.
