 German President Steinmeier Arrives in Nigeria for Diplomatic Visit

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier touched down in Nigeria on Tuesday night, marking the start of a high-profile visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. He was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Steinmeier’s visit, which will run through December 12, 2024, includes a series of important engagements. He is scheduled to meet with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Alieu Omar Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, among other key figures.

The German President will then travel to Lagos, where he will meet with business leaders, visit a local start-up hub, and engage with prominent figures in Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including renowned artist Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.

Steinmeier’s itinerary also includes a tour of Lagos, providing him with the chance to explore the city’s dynamic urban development, and gain valuable insights into its environmental and social challenges.
