ADC accuses APC of using judiciary to weaken opposition, warns of threat to national stability

Political tensions have heightened following a Federal High Court ruling that nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress and the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its 2027 presidential candidate, with the party accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to cripple the opposition.

In a statement on Thursday, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, questioned the timing of the judgment, which came barely 24 hours after the party’s campaign rally in Sokoto.

The party argued that the ruling affected not only Atiku and former Senate President David Mark but also thousands of its candidates seeking elective positions in 2027.

It faulted the judgment, citing an earlier ruling by Justice Musa Liman of the same court, which it said affirmed the legitimacy of the Mark-led leadership.

The ADC said it was awaiting the Certified True Copy of the latest judgment but vowed to challenge the decision through all available legal channels.

It also warned that attempts to weaken opposition parties could threaten national stability, challenging President Bola Tinubu and the APC to test their popularity through free and fair elections.
