The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected its Presidential Campaign Council list in circulation, citing alleged violations of party guidelines and the exclusion of key stakeholders.
The disputed list names the party’s governorship candidate in the last Osun election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, as Director-General.
However, some members of the state executive committee, in a statement jointly signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Wole Adunola, and three other officials, faulted the arrangement.
They argued that the list contradicts an earlier presidential directive reportedly appointing Governor Ademola Adeleke as Director-General of the council in the state.
The officials also criticised the exclusion of several State Working Committee members, insisting that their membership was required under the party’s guidelines.
“The exclusion of these recognised party officials raises serious concerns about consultation, due process, and respect for the party’s established leadership structure”, the statement read.
They further questioned the emergence of a new arrangement after Adeleke had reportedly inaugurated a broad-based team to coordinate the presidential campaign across the state.
The group suggested that the disputed list might have been intended for a Parliamentary Campaign Council rather than the Presidential Campaign Council, urging the party to clarify the distinction.
They consequently called for an immediate review of the list, with consultations involving relevant stakeholders, including APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and the State Director-General.
Reaffirming their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the officials stressed that party loyalty should not prevent constructive criticism of decisions capable of creating divisions.
“Our position is clear: we need a campaign council that respects party structures, recognises legitimate leadership, accommodates critical stakeholders, and unites all members towards electoral victory”, they said.
They urged the party leadership to address the concerns and ensure that no legitimate stakeholder was excluded from the campaign structure.
