AS Roma have confirmed that Argentina internationals Paulo Dybala and Nahuel Molina will miss the October 6 farewell match for Lionel Messi against Benin.
The Italian club said the decision was influenced by the demands of the long intercontinental journey and the proximity of upcoming official fixtures.
Roma acknowledged the significance of the occasion for both players, who were members of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning squad and have connections with Messi.
“The club recognises the importance of this appointment for the two players, who are linked to Lionel Messi and played a key role in his victory at the 2022 World Cup,” they said.
The club stressed that the decision was not a reflection of its regard for Messi or the importance of the event.
Roma added that it had “the utmost respect” for Messi and his career, while sending their best wishes to the Argentina captain and the Argentine Football Association.
“AS Roma expresses its utmost respect for Lionel Messi and his extraordinary career, wishing him and the Argentine Federation a special evening,” they added.
The Argentina-Benin encounter is set for October 6 as part of celebrations for Messi’s international career, but Dybala and Molina will not feature.
