2027: Wike Stakes Ministerial Seat on Tinubu’s Victory in FCT, Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says he is prepared to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win either the Federal Capital Territory or Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the declaration while receiving members of the Association of Apo Mechanic Village, who sought the FCT Administration’s intervention over plans to relocate their workshop.

The minister said his political focus remains on mobilising support for Tinubu in both territories and expressed confidence that the president would secure the two in the 2027 contest. His latest pledge comes days after he announced plans to establish and lead campaign structures for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers.

Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party while serving in Tinubu’s administration, has repeatedly said his support for the president’s re-election is separate from the PDP’s participation in other elections.

Beyond the political declaration, the meeting also focused on the concerns of the Apo mechanics, who are seeking government intervention over the proposed relocation of their businesses.

Wike assured the group that the FCT Administration would engage relevant stakeholders to address the issue and work towards a practical arrangement that takes their businesses and livelihoods into consideration.

The minister’s latest comments add to his increasingly active role in preparations for the 2027 election, particularly his stated objective of mobilising support for Tinubu in the FCT and his home state of Rivers.
