Maintenance of 162MVA transformer to affect several communities and industrial customers across AEDC and BEDC networks….
Electricity customers across parts of the Abuja and Benin distribution networks are expected to experience a temporary power disruption as the Transmission Company of Nigeria begins scheduled maintenance at its Ajaokuta transmission substation.
The TCN said the annual preventive maintenance exercise at the 330/132kV Ajaokuta substation was scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, between 9am and 4pm.
According to the transmission company, the exercise is necessary to carry out preventive maintenance on a 162MVA, 330/132kV power transformer, as well as associated switchgear and other equipment at the facility.
The maintenance will affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and Benin Electricity Distribution Company to receive and distribute power to some customers within their respective franchise areas.
Under the AEDC network, customers in Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and surrounding communities are expected to be affected during the exercise.
For customers under the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, the affected areas include Okpella Town, BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, Freedom Group Company, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara and Oka, among others.
TCN said power supply to the affected locations would be restored once the maintenance work is completed.
The company explained that the planned intervention was part of its routine preventive maintenance programme aimed at keeping critical transmission infrastructure in proper working condition.
It apologised to affected electricity customers for the inconvenience and appealed for their understanding and cooperation during the maintenance period.
