The political realignment in Kwara State has cost two members of the State House of Assembly their seats after they defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The affected lawmakers are Saba Yisa Gideon of Edu Constituency and Olusola Odetundun of Irepodun Constituency.
The House declared their seats vacant following a request from the APC State Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, citing Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
Leading the debate, House Leader Abdulkadir Oba Magaji argued that the lawmakers could not defect while their tenure remained unexpired, particularly as there was no division within the APC.
He said the two lawmakers were elected on the APC platform but had since joined the PDP and were seeking re-election under the opposition party.
Other lawmakers, including Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel, Ganiyu Folabi Salahu and Oguniyi David Sheun, supported the request.
The Speaker, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, subsequently declared the two seats vacant in line with the provisions of the Constitution.
