Governor Ademola Adeleke’s renewed support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid has triggered criticism, with the Nigeria Reset Movement accusing the Osun governor of betraying those who supported his political journey.
The group says Adeleke’s position contradicts his earlier stance before the 2026 Osun governorship election, when he raised concerns about possible electoral malpractice and mobilised public support against such a possibility.
The NRM’s Public Relations Officer, David Jones, made the allegation in a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State. Jones also alleged that several people lost their lives during the election, criticising Adeleke for not addressing the issue in his victory speech.
He described the governor’s support for Tinubu as a betrayal of those who backed him during the election and said the development reflected what he called the wider problem of political expediency and lack of accountability among Nigerian leaders.
The NRM said it would intensify its activities ahead of the 2027 elections, describing itself as a non-partisan platform focused on holding political leaders and institutions accountable.
Jones said the organisation was established to provide a platform for Nigerians to challenge actions by political and economic elites that undermine the national interest. He likened the group’s accountability model to the traditional practice of summoning individuals before the village square to explain their actions.
He said the organisation would invite public figures and political actors to defend their positions on issues of national importance, adding that Nigerians would judge those who decline such invitations. Jones urged Nigerians to scrutinise the actions of political leaders and withdraw their support from individuals who fail to account for their decisions.
