Plans to redirect spending towards priority projects are taking shape in Lagos, following a request by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the reordering of the state’s 2026 budget.
The request was presented to the Lagos State House of Assembly through a letter read by the Clerk of the House, Adenike Oshinowo.
Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Olumoh Sa’ad, said the budget had recorded about 69 percent performance, making the reordering necessary to ensure available resources are directed to priority areas.
Lawmakers also called for greater funding of capital projects that are at advanced stages of completion, while urging the government to sustain funding for ongoing projects.
Kehinde Joseph called for increased allocation to drainage and flood-control projects, citing the need to address flooding and improve living conditions across the state.
The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, referred the proposal to the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget for further consideration.
The committee was given two weeks to submit its report to the House.
