INEC Plans Downloadable Voter Cards

Accessing voter registration and replacing lost Permanent Voter Cards could soon become easier as the Independent National Electoral Commission rolls out new digital reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, unveiled the plans while receiving the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

He said the commission plans to introduce downloadable Permanent Voter Cards for voters whose cards have been lost or defaced, stressing that the option will only be available to those who had previously collected a physical PVC.

According to Amupitan, affected voters must report the loss or damage at least 90 days before an election to qualify for a replacement. The commission also plans to pilot the initiative during the Osun governorship election.

He further disclosed that INEC is developing a platform that will enable eligible Nigerians to complete voter registration entirely online.

Amupitan said the digital reforms are designed to make electoral services more accessible and ensure that more eligible citizens can participate in future elections.
