Zulum Approves 473 Medical Staff to Improve Healthcare Access in Borno

As part of ongoing healthcare reforms across Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has sanctioned the recruitment of 473 medical personnel, including doctors, nurses, and specialised staff, to boost delivery.

The announcement was made by Prof. Abubakar Kullima, Chief Medical Director of the Borno State Hospitals Management Board, in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

Kullima said the recruitment aims to fill manpower gaps and improve access to quality healthcare services in hospitals and primary healthcare centres across the state.

The intake includes medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), as well as technical, support, and specialised personnel such as primary eye care and perioperative care nurses.

“The governor has approved the recruitment of 473 medical personnel to enhance healthcare service delivery and ensure residents have improved access to quality medical care”, Kullima said, adding that the new staff will be deployed to facilities across the state’s three senatorial zones.

The recruitment forms part of a broader set of health sector reforms under Governor Zulum, including the inauguration of new healthcare facilities such as eye and dental hospitals and the provision of special training funds for Resident Doctors.

Kullima also highlighted the introduction of incentives to attract skilled personnel to rural areas, including a 100 per cent rural posting allowance for doctors and a 40 per cent allowance for nurses working in hard-to-reach communities.
