IGP Extends Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement Deadline to October 2

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has approved a further extension of the grace period for enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit requirement for vehicles with tinted windows. The new enforcement date is now set for October 2, 2025.

The extension was announced in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, who explained that the decision follows a significant surge in applications submitted through the official portal — a clear sign of improved public compliance with the directive.

According to the statement, the additional time will allow for a comprehensive review of pending applications to ensure that permits are issued only to qualified and eligible applicants, in line with national security considerations. It will also support ongoing upgrades to both the digital and physical verification processes, aimed at strengthening the integrity of the system and preventing abuse.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed that the only authorized platform for permit applications is https://possap.gov.ng and warned citizens to ignore any unofficial channels.

DCP Adejobi urged members of the public to report cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorized processing to the appropriate authorities via the dedicated hotline 09169967000.

He expressed appreciation for the cooperation of Nigerians and reiterated the Force’s commitment to striking a balance between public convenience and robust security measures — all in the interest of safeguarding lives and property.
