CAF Names Nigeria’s Deborah Abiodun Among Top Rising Stars for 2024 WAFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Nigeria’s Deborah Abiodun among the five rising stars to watch at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The dynamic midfielder was recently included in the Super Falcons’ squad for the tournament in Morocco by head coach Justine Madugu. This will mark Abiodun’s debut appearance at WAFCON.
At just 21 years old, Abiodun rose to prominence with her standout performances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where she impressed on the global stage for the nine-time African champions.
A former player for Rivers Angels, Abiodun is expected to be a key figure in Nigeria’s campaign as they aim to secure a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
She has earned seven caps for the Super Falcons so far in her international career.
Joining Abiodun on CAF’s watchlist are Ruth Bulala Nossa of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana’s Comfort Yeboah, and Tunisia’s Salma Marzouki. (Note: Salma Marzouki was mentioned twice in the original report.)
