“There’s No Genuine Friendship in the Music Industry” – Ruger

Afrobeats sensation Michael Adebayo Olayinka, widely known as Ruger, has revealed a stark reality about friendships within the Nigerian music scene.

In a candid conversation on The Stanley Agu Show, Ruger shared that true friendships in the industry are extremely rare—often limited to just one or two people.

He explained, “If there’s one thing I wish I understood earlier, it’s that no one is really your friend in this industry. The most you can count on is maybe two genuine people who truly want to see you succeed, who stay by your side through the good times and the bad.”

Ruger emphasized the business-driven nature of music relationships: “Everything here is business. People stick around when you can offer something, but the moment you can’t, many will turn their backs. You have to accept that reality—sometimes you might have just one friend, or none at all.”

His words highlight the often harsh, transactional dynamics behind the glitz of the music world.
