8,000 Terrorists, Bandits Neutralised Under Tinubu — Defence Minister

Matawalle credits Tinubu’s security reforms for massive gains in counterterrorism and national defence.

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has revealed that over 8,000 terrorists and bandits have been neutralised across Nigeria in 2024 under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Matawalle made the disclosure while evaluating the government’s security performance, attributing the significant progress to renewed operational strategies and focused leadership under Tinubu.

The announcement was contained in a statement released on Monday by Patience Ituke, on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence.

“The successful neutralisation of over 8,000 terrorists and bandits, the arrest of 11,600 criminals, and recovery of more than 10,000 illegal weapons are key milestones in the Tinubu administration’s fight against insecurity,” the statement noted.

Matawalle highlighted the creation of the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell as a pivotal move that has improved coordination among security forces in combating kidnapping and violent crime.

He lauded President Tinubu for his “transformative reforms,” noting that the administration’s achievements in defence and national security could secure a second term for the President in 2027.

“These initiatives will pave the way for a brighter future for Nigeria and potentially secure Tinubu’s re-election,” Matawalle said.

Beyond security, the minister pointed to other milestones of the Tinubu administration, such as the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development, which he said is already reducing grain prices and boosting agricultural productivity in Northern Nigeria.

He also referenced ongoing road construction projects and transportation upgrades as drivers of economic inclusion and regional development.

“The Ministry of Livestock Development aims to harness agricultural potential, promote growth, and empower millions,” the minister added.

Matawalle expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the administration’s current trajectory could lead to long-term national transformation.

While acknowledging that his projection of re-election in 2027 is based on present achievements, he insisted that the impact of Tinubu’s policies has already begun reshaping the country’s future.
