Cancer Survivors, Golfers Unite for ‘Swing Against Cancer’ Charity Tournament at Ikoyi Club

More than 100 golfers, including cancer survivors, will gather at Ikoyi Golf Club on Thursday, May 8, for the Foundation for Cancer Care’s annual charity tournament, ‘Swing Against Cancer Golf Day’. The event is designed to raise awareness for cancer prevention and support the foundation’s ongoing outreach and treatment efforts.

Now in its third edition, the tournament will feature a spirited team format with golfers competing in teams of four. While the event will showcase friendly competition on the greens, its primary focus remains on the foundation’s mission to improve access to cancer care and promote early detection.

This year’s tournament aims to raise vital funds for two key initiatives: the purchase of a state-of-the-art mobile cancer screening bus and the provision of radiotherapy treatments for patients who currently lack adequate access to healthcare services.

A major highlight of the event is the participation of Farooq Oreagba, a cancer survivor and vocal advocate for cancer awareness. His story and presence are expected to motivate and inspire both players and spectators.

Chairman of the Foundation, Chumy Nwogu, underscored the significance of awareness and early detection in the battle against cancer, noting that initiatives like this tournament are crucial in spreading life-saving information and ensuring that more patients receive timely treatment.
