Zamfara: Commissioner meets LG chairmen to address healthcare challenges

Zamfara State Commissioner for Health, Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, has met with the chairmen of the state’s 14 local government councils to address leadership challenges in primary health care (PHC) delivery and to appreciate their continued support in the monthly supply of essential drugs to their communities.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Suleiman Isah, Information Officer at the Zamfara State Ministry of Health, the meeting took place on Wednesday and focused on the Local Government Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.

Commissioner Maradun explained that the gathering aimed to sensitize the LGA Chairmen on the objectives and expectations of the upcoming PHC Leadership Challenge. She also used the platform to clearly outline their roles in ensuring the provision of high-quality healthcare services across the state.

Also speaking at the event, Hussaini Anka, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board, called on the local government chairmen to offer unwavering support for the success of the challenge, emphasizing that strong local leadership is key to improving health outcomes.

In response, ALGON Chairman, Samaila Husaini Moriki, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting the state’s health sector and encouraged fellow LGA chairmen to strengthen their backing of primary health care centers in their respective areas.

The World Health Organization (WHO) State Coordinator, Raji, also commended the chairmen for their ongoing contributions to various health interventions across the state.

The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between state and local governments in strengthening healthcare delivery systems and achieving lasting improvements in public health across Zamfara State.
