Yinka Alaseyori Reaches Out to Tope Alabi After Five-Year Rift

Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has extended birthday wishes to veteran colleague Tope Alabi, prompting speculation that relations between the two musicians may be improving after their widely discussed disagreement in 2021.
Alaseyori shared a photograph of Alabi on Instagram on Tuesday evening, accompanying it with a message wishing the veteran singer well in her new year.
“Happy birthday Ma L/Evang @tope_alabi and congratulations on your new age,” she wrote.
She also prayed for continued grace, strength and mercy for Alabi, expressing goodwill towards the singer beyond her birthday.
The gesture comes more than five years after a public disagreement between the gospel artistes over Alaseyori’s popular song, Oniduro Mi, which translates to “My Guarantor”.
In June 2021, Alabi publicly criticised the song’s description of God as a guarantor, arguing that the term did not adequately reflect God’s greatness. Her comments sparked widespread reactions online, with some Christian listeners accusing her of being unfair to her younger colleague.
The controversy drew considerable attention within Nigeria’s gospel music community. In its aftermath, the singers were reportedly no longer seen publicly celebrating each other on social media as they had previously done.
Alaseyori’s latest birthday message has therefore attracted attention from followers who have hoped for a reconciliation between the two women.
However, neither singer has explicitly confirmed that they have resolved their differences. The birthday greeting may signal a warmer relationship, but it does not, on its own, establish that a full reconciliation has taken place.
