Abia Warriors challenge five-match ban on multimedia officer

Abia Warriors have appealed the five-match suspension handed to their multimedia officer, Chidera Favour Igwe, describing the sanction as excessive and unwarranted.

The Umuahia-based club denied that Igwe attempted to disrupt a live broadcast during their October 25 Matchday 10 fixture, maintaining that she only voiced her dissatisfaction with what she considered poor officiating.

In a petition to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the club explained that Igwe asked a broadcast cameraman to direct his camera towards the visiting team’s section after allegedly focusing on her for an extended period. Abia Warriors insisted she never obstructed his work and called on the league to review the punishment.

The club also disputed a separate allegation of inadequate security during the match, following a notice over an alleged violation of Rule 8.13.52 of the 2026/2027 EUROMATCH NPFL Framework and Rules.

Abia Warriors maintained that sufficient security measures were deployed, noting that broadcast footage could clarify the incident. The club added that the visiting team departed the stadium without harassment or any reported security breach, urging the league to seek the visitors’ account before making a decision.

The club requested the withdrawal of the security notice and reiterated its commitment to league regulations and professional relations with match officials, broadcast partners and other stakeholders.

Abia Warriors further appealed for Igwe’s suspension to be reviewed if the league concludes that disciplinary measures are necessary.
