Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres has opened up about his decision to join Arsenal despite receiving interest from several other leading European clubs.
Gyökeres officially signed his contract as a new Arsenal player on Saturday.
The deal was finalized after he successfully completed his medical examinations at the Emirates Stadium.
Gyökeres will don the number 14 jersey for the north London club, joining Arsenal from Sporting CP.
In an interview with the club’s official website on Thursday, he explained, “There were several clubs involved, but I chose Arsenal because it is the best club for me.”
He added, “The transfer was not straightforward. Some individuals frequently spoke to the media, believing they were safeguarding the club’s interests.”
Many fans and analysts feel that Arsenal’s shortage of a natural striker under Mikel Arteta cost them the Premier League title last season, as they finished second behind Liverpool.
