More than 1,250 people have died following devastating floods and landslides in northern Nepal, prompting the United Nations and humanitarian partners to launch a 49.6-million-dollar emergency appeal.
The four-month plan targets more than 84,000 affected people in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, with assistance focused on preventing further hardship and disease outbreaks ahead of winter.
The disaster, which struck on August 26, destroyed homes, roads, power networks and water systems, leaving several communities cut off from basic supplies.
Relief efforts will provide cash assistance, emergency shelter, solar power units, clean water, hygiene supplies, medical care, nutrition support and food.
Aid teams will also help reunite separated children and protect surviving livestock, while supporting affected families to recover their livelihoods.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Lila Pieters Yahia, said the response would prioritise the hardest-to-reach communities before winter arrives.
