UEFA Rejects Real Madrid Appeal Over Rüdiger, Mbappé, and Ceballos Disciplinary Sanctions

UEFA has dismissed Real Madrid’s appeal to overturn disciplinary sanctions imposed on Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, and Dani Ceballos for “improper conduct” during their Champions League round-of-16 clash against Atlético Madrid.

The trio was fined €40,000, €30,000, and €20,000 respectively for “violating the basic rules of decent conduct” following incidents that occurred during the penalty shootout victory on March 12.

In addition to the fines, Rüdiger and Mbappé received one-match bans, which will only come into effect in the event of repeat offenses.

The disciplinary measures, initially announced on April 4, stem from an investigation sparked by Rüdiger’s throat-slitting gesture aimed at Atlético fans, Mbappé’s controversial crotch grab during celebrations, and Ceballos being found guilty of provoking supporters at the Metropolitano stadium.

UEFA’s appeals body confirmed there were no grounds to overturn the sanctions, effectively upholding the initial ruling despite Real Madrid’s efforts to have the penalties rescinded.
