A three-storey building has collapsed in the Lekki area of Lagos, resulting in two fatalities and six people being rescued so far, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident but stated that the immediate cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
“So far, two adult males have been extricated from the rubble of the collapsed building. Six seriously injured adult males were rescued and given immediate medical attention by the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit before being transferred to Marina General Hospital for further treatment,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
LASEMA’s Response Teams have initiated a full Search and Rescue Operation at the site, coordinating with other key stakeholders to ensure an effective response. The agency has deployed heavy-duty equipment, including an excavator, to aid in the rescue efforts, with both light and heavy-duty tools being used to continue the search.
Authorities have stated that further investigations will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse.
