Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have thwarted coordinated attacks by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on military positions in Yadi and Bitta communities in Borno State, killing 48 insurgents during the counter-offensive.
The encounters, which involved coordinated air and ground operations, occurred on the night of October 29 and extended into the early hours of October 30, 2026.
The first confrontation reportedly erupted in Yadi at about 9 p.m., triggering a sustained military response that lasted until approximately 1 a.m. the following day.
A military source disclosed that the Theatre Command coordinated the operation, deploying intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets alongside ground troops and air support to repel the insurgents.
The ensuing engagement resulted in the neutralisation of 48 suspected terrorists, while troops also recovered several weapons and ammunition from the area.
In a separate encounter on the same night, troops successfully repelled another ISWAP assault on their military camp in Bitta, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attackers were overwhelmed by the combined firepower of ground forces and air assets, forcing them to retreat.
Following the successful defence of the military positions, troops continued clearance and exploitation operations in the affected areas to assess the situation, secure the locations and prevent further attacks.
The latest engagements underscore the continuing military campaign against insurgent groups operating in parts of the North-East, particularly Borno State, which remains a major theatre of the prolonged counter-insurgency operation.
