Troops Arrest Terrorist Logistics Suppliers, Informants, Spies in Northeast

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, have arrested suspected terrorist logistics suppliers, informants and spies as sustained military offensives continue to mount pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this on Saturday while providing an update on military operations conducted across the country between August 31 and September 3, 2026.

Onoja said the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) also recovered arms and ammunition during the operations, while several terrorist fighters surrendered to troops.

He said the military sustained kinetic operations across all theatres of operation, recording successes in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping and secessionist agitation.

According to him, troops on September 1 arrested a suspected former terrorist fighter who had turned informant at Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

He added that between September 1 and 2, several terrorist fighters surrendered to troops, while suspected logistics suppliers, informants and spies were arrested across the theatre following sustained offensive pressure.

Onoja further disclosed that 21 women and children surrendered to troops at Mafa in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State on September 2, citing ongoing clashes between rival terrorist factions in the Yaganari enclave.

On the same day, troops intercepted another escapee near Amuda Bridge in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state. The individual was said to have fled terrorist captivity because of hunger and hardship.

The Defence spokesman said the latest successes reflected the determination of the Armed Forces to protect lives and property and safeguard the territorial integrity of the country.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, commended troops across all theatres for their sustained efforts in neutralising terrorists, rescuing abducted citizens, receiving surrendered fighters and their families, and dismantling criminal and secessionist networks.

Oluyede also praised the collaboration between the military and other security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, local security groups and other stakeholders.

He said the synergy among the agencies was continuing to produce tangible results in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping and secessionist agitation.

The CDS also commended the media for what he described as continued professionalism and balanced reporting of military operations.

He urged members of the public, traditional rulers and community leaders to continue providing useful information to security forces to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

The Defence headquarters reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to sustaining the current offensive posture until peace, stability and security are fully restored across all theatres of operation.
