Tobi Amusan Set for Diamond League Opener in Xiamen as 2025 Season Begins

World record holder Tobi Amusan has been confirmed as one of the headline athletes for the 2025 Diamond League season opener in Xiamen, China, as she kicks off her pursuit of another title-winning campaign on the global stage.
The official entry list for the Xiamen Meeting, released on Tuesday, includes Amusan in a highly competitive 100 metres hurdles field. The meet is scheduled for April 26 at Egret Stadium and marks the third edition of the Chinese leg of the prestigious athletics series, featuring nine track and seven field events.
Amusan, who set the world record of 12.12 seconds and currently ranks 13th globally, will face tough opponents including Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas (world indoor 60m hurdles record holder), Jamaican world champion Danielle Williams (PB: 12.32), and top Americans Grace Stark, Tonea Marshall, and Nia Ali.
The Nigerian hurdler heads into the meet following a promising start to her season at Jamaica’s Velocity Fest 16, where she won the women’s 100 metres in 11.28 seconds (-0.5 wind). It was her first competitive appearance since last year’s Paris Olympics and her first major event as a member of the Racers Track Club in Kingston.
Amusan finished fifth at last year’s Xiamen Meeting, clocking a season-best of 12.58 seconds in a race won by Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. This year’s opener offers an early opportunity for Amusan to reassert her dominance ahead of major meets including the Diamond League Final in Zurich in August and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
She joins a star-studded lineup of Olympic and world champions set to compete in Xiamen, including Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis, Ukrainian high jump ace Yaroslava Mahuchikh, American hurdler Grant Holloway, and Botswana’s Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo.
