Tinubu Applauds Rescue of 100 Students in Niger, Calls for Continued Efforts

President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the release of 100 students abducted from Papiri Catholic School in Niger State, praising security agencies for their swift response.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President called on security operatives to intensify efforts to secure the release of the remaining 115 students and staff still held by bandits.

“I rejoice with Governor Umar Bago and commend our security agencies for their dedicated work in ensuring the safe return of the students to their families,” Tinubu said. He assured parents that the Federal Government, in coordination with the Niger State Government, is committed to bringing home every abducted child.

“My directive to our security forces remains clear: all students and other abducted Nigerians across the country must be rescued and returned safely. We must account for every victim,” the President added.

Tinubu also outlined steps to strengthen the security of schools nationwide, emphasizing that educational institutions must no longer be soft targets for terrorists. “From now on, our security agencies, working with governors, must prevent future kidnappings. Our children should no longer be sitting ducks for heartless terrorists intent on disrupting their education and traumatizing families,” he said.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to student safety, Tinubu noted that protecting schools is a top priority within broader national security reforms.
