Rivers Assembly set to screen pro-Wike ex-commissioners for reappointment

The Rivers State House of Assembly is set to re-screen nine Commissioners who resigned from the cabinet of Governor Siminalayi Fubara out of their loyalty to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike for reappointment into the state’s cabinet.

The Commissioners had voluntarily resigned from the cabinet some weeks ago in the heat of the political crisis in Rivers spurred by disagreement between Wike, a former governor of the state who is now the FCT Minister and Fubara, his predecessor.

The re-absorption of the Commissioners into the cabinet is one of the terms of the peace deal reached for the settlement of the crisis between Wike and Fubara brokered by President Bola Tinubu.

This was contained in a statement by the clerk of the house Emeka Amadi who said the nominees will be screened on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

He said: “The Rivers State House of Assembly hereby invites the following Commissioner -nominees for screening and confirmation as Members of the Rivers State Executive Council:

  1. Zacchaeus Adangor SAN DSSRS
    2. Dr. Jacobson Mbina DSSRS
    3. Dr. Gift Worlu
    4. Inime Chinwenwo- Aguma DSSRS
    5. Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke FNSE DSSRS
    6. Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom DSSRS
    7. Dr. George-Kelly D. Alabo FNIQS DSSRS
    8. Hon. Isaac Kamalu DSSRS
    9. Engr. Austin Ben Chioma

The clerk asked the nominees to come “along with 40 sets of Curriculum Vitae (CV), photocopies of their credentials and their originals”.

The Commissioners, most of whom also served in the cabinet of Fubara, had given various reasons varying from “personal principles, other commitments and conscience”, among others for resigning from the cabinet last December.

They all served in the same capacity in the previous administration of former Gov Nyesom Wike, now the minister of FCT Abuja.
