The Nigerian Army has stepped up its security operations in Kebbi State with the activation of three new military formations aimed at strengthening the fight against banditry, terrorism and other emerging threats across the North-West.
The new formations comprise the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi, the 281 Tank Battalion in Yauri and the 381 Artillery Regiment in Kaoje.
The Army said the deployment is expected to expand its operational reach, reinforce command and control, and enable troops to respond more swiftly to security threats in the state and neighbouring areas.
At the activation ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General Paul Koughna, urged personnel to maintain discipline, comply with established Rules of Engagement and strengthen cooperation with other security agencies and local communities.
The Army leadership also assured residents of Jandutse of increased military presence following a recent bandit attack in the community that claimed the life of a resident, with troops expected to intensify efforts to prevent further attacks.
The Kebbi State Government welcomed the establishment of the formations, describing them as an additional boost to counter-insurgency efforts and the state’s capacity to respond to emerging security challenges.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed BK, called on residents to support security operations by providing credible intelligence to the authorities and avoiding any form of assistance to criminal groups.
