Terry G Slams Billboard for Excluding His Hits from Afrobeats All-Time List

The singer says he was “robbed” after none of his chart-topping anthems made Billboard’s Top 50 Afrobeats songs of all time.

Nigerian singer Terry G has expressed frustration after being left out of Billboard’s recently released Top 50 Afrobeats Songs of All Time list.

Despite his influence on the genre with hits like Free Madness, Akpako Master, and Run Mad, none of the songs made the cut. The list, which has generated widespread conversation, crowned 2Face Idibia’s African Queen as number one. Other notable mentions include Timaya’s Dem Mama and Olu Maintain’s Yahooze.

Reacting to the ranking via a post shared by Chart Data, Terry G said he felt “robbed” by the omission. His reaction immediately stirred heated debates across social media.

While some fans rallied behind him, questioning why songs like Free Madness were ignored, others felt the list was fair and that African Queen’s enduring message justified its top spot.

A user identified as VIK-TOH12 joked that Terry G must have been treated like a “foreigner” for Free Madness to be excluded, adding that other veteran acts were also overlooked.

On the other hand, a commenter known as Singerpour urged Terry G to remain humble, noting that his contributions to Afrobeats were undeniable but warning against overreacting.

Another fan, Efebest38, defended Billboard’s choice, stressing that African Queen “entered everybody’s heart first” because of its timeless message.

The conversation highlights an ongoing debate within the music industry: whether cultural impact or longevity should weigh more in ranking Afrobeats classics.
