Nigerian soldiers have successfully repelled two coordinated terrorist attacks in Borno State, one in the Buratai area of Biu Local Government Area and the other in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area.
The twin attacks, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, were swiftly countered by troops under Operation Hadin Kai, the military’s counter-insurgency operation in the North-east.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the incident and commended the gallantry of the soldiers involved. He said the troops not only subdued the insurgents but also recovered “assorted arms and ammunition” from the battlefields. Several terrorists were reportedly killed, and their bodies recovered, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
In Mallam Fatori, Boko Haram fighters launched a multi-front assault on a military base. However, alert troops quickly mobilised and repelled the attack. The fleeing insurgents were pursued with the help of aerial support from the Air Component’s attack platforms.
According to Captain Kovangiya, troops recovered a cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), and other equipment.
He added that operations are still ongoing in the affected areas, with support from the Nigerian Army’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Command and other units. Kovangiya reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring lasting peace to the North-east region.
