Team Nigeria intensify preparations for Senegal Youth Olympic Games

Nigeria’s young athletes are undergoing rigorous training in Abuja ahead of the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, scheduled to commence on October 31.

The team is focused on improving fitness, building confidence and sharpening competitive readiness as they prepare to represent the country at the fourth Summer Youth Olympic Games.

Running until November 13, the competition will feature approximately 2,700 athletes aged 17 and below, with events spread across Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly. The Games will mark the first time an Olympic event is hosted on African soil.

National Sports Commission Director-General Bukola Olopade said the event presents an opportunity to discover and develop emerging Nigerian talents while strengthening the country’s pipeline of athletes for future Olympic competitions.

Nigeria will also be represented by an experienced figure, as Tokyo 2020 Olympic wrestling silver medallist Blessing Oborududu has been selected among 31 elite athletes appointed by the International Olympic Committee as Athlete Role Models to mentor young competitors during the Games.
