Stella Damasus Recalls When She, Omotola and Genevieve Ruled Nollywood

Veteran actress Stella Damasus has reflected on her time alongside Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Genevieve Nnaji, describing the trio as Nollywood’s “Big Three” during their era.

Speaking in an interview with Pulse TV, Damasus said the three actresses stood out for their authenticity and determination to succeed.

“They called us the Big Three, Omotola, Stella and Genevieve,” she said, adding that they were not trying to imitate other actors or build their careers solely around fame and money.

Damasus also recalled how different the industry was before the rise of social media, saying there were few ways for actors to gauge their popularity or predict how successful their careers could become.

She said appearing on a movie poster was often one of the main ways actors gained visibility, while recognition from audiences came through their work and public appearances.

The actress said the trio’s popularity also sparked comparisons among fans, with supporters often debating who was better than the others.

According to Damasus, the rivalry among their fan bases created additional motivation for the actresses to keep improving.

“Young, beautiful, and talented women” were coming into the industry with determination to succeed, she recalled.

Damasus said none of them wanted to be seen as the weakest among the group, making the competition another factor that pushed them to give their best.

The actress has remained active in film and television and has previously spoken about her career in both Nigeria and the United States.
