‘She Changed My Life Too’ — Don Jazzy Reflects on Ayra Starr’s Rise

Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy has credited singer Ayra Starr with having a major impact on his life, years after he discovered and signed the young artiste.
The Mavin Records boss made the remark while responding to a post on X praising his role in Ayra Starr’s career.
An X user, @_Fabianszn, shared an old photograph of the singer and suggested that Don Jazzy’s intervention had changed the course of her life.
Don Jazzy, however, turned the praise around, revealing that Ayra Starr’s emergence had also significantly influenced his own journey.
He recalled discovering the singer through a freestyle she posted on Instagram and expressed gratitude for the moment that brought her to his attention.
“I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle,” Don Jazzy wrote.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl.”
Ayra Starr, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, rose to prominence after attracting attention online with her covers and freestyles.
Don Jazzy subsequently signed her to Mavin Records in 2020, marking the beginning of a partnership that would propel her into the global Afrobeats spotlight.
Since then, Ayra Starr has released internationally recognised songs and projects, building a strong following in Nigeria and beyond.
Don Jazzy’s latest comment highlights the reciprocal nature of their relationship, with the music executive acknowledging that the artiste he helped introduce to a wider audience has also contributed significantly to his own story.
