The political landscape in Bauchi State shifted on Friday as Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to more than two decades with the party.
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ningi Ward, Ningi said his decision followed wide consultations with political allies, supporters, and stakeholders, describing it as a difficult but necessary step in his political journey.
He noted that since joining the PDP in 1998, the party had provided him the platform to serve at different levels, including two terms in the House of Representatives and two terms in the Senate. However, he expressed disappointment over what he described as prolonged internal crises, leadership disputes, and factional divisions, which he said had weakened the party’s cohesion.
“It is now a great concern and worrisome to me that this once vibrant and united platform has been reduced to a structure plagued by internal wrangling and factional interests”, he stated.
The senator appreciated party members and leaders for their support over the years and wished the PDP well in its efforts to rebuild.
Meanwhile, political realignments are already underway, with indications that Ningi may soon align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, a development seen as part of a broader shift among political actors ahead of the next election cycle.
