Sandra Okunzuwa Says She Ended Relationship Over Partner’s Reaction to On-Screen Kiss

Actress and producer Sandra Okunzuwa has shared how a previous relationship ended after her partner reacted with jealousy over an on-screen kissing scene.
Speaking on the BTS Reality podcast, Okunzuwa said her then-boyfriend became uncomfortable after someone sent him a clip from one of her films showing her kissing a male co-star.
According to her, his response to the video created tension in the relationship, ultimately leading her to walk away.
The actress also used the conversation to shed light on the realities of filming romantic scenes in Nollywood, noting that such moments are often far from the glamorous perception held by audiences.
She explained that intimate scenes are typically shot in controlled production environments involving a full crew, with multiple people present on set and constant direction from the filmmaker.
Okunzuwa added that factors such as lighting, crew presence, and technical instructions make it unlikely for actors to feel any personal emotional connection during such scenes.
“When actors kiss while filming, there are about 20 people watching them, and instructions are also being dished out to them. Even the AC will be turned off, and the director will be monitoring and instructing them all the way through,” she said.
She further noted that romantic scenes can sometimes strain personal relationships, especially when partners struggle with jealousy or misunderstanding of the profession.
Okunzuwa suggested that if such scenes could be removed without affecting storytelling, she would support the idea, while also acknowledging that audience expectations make them a common feature in films.
She added that she understands why some people choose not to date actors, stressing that individuals must decide what they can personally tolerate in relationships.
